For those of us with a culinary mind-set, there’s a hot new ticket in town. Or rather, in the glorious Hampshire countryside where March 2017 will mark the return of James Martin to the renowned 5* hotel and spa, Chewton Glen.
Coinciding with the hotel’s 50th anniversary, ‘The Cookery School’, fronted by Martin, will open its doors to guests eager to learn a trick or two from the schedule of masterclasses crafted by Martin himself and led by various chefs from across the UK. Classes will be of an informal and relaxed nature, where guests will be able to take advantage of the expertise offered in a range of food and wine courses from individual cooking stations.
The chef’s formal return to Chewton Glen is the welcome result of a close 20-year relationship, of which the roots can be traced back to Martin’s position as a junior pastry chef in the hotel’s own kitchen during the fledgling days of his career.
The Cookery School will take residency along with some other notable additions at ‘The Kitchen’ including a new purpose-built dining complex on the site of the hotel’s old gatehouse. The Kitchen will also see the arrival of a new 40-seater restaurant encompassing a range of dining options and ‘The Chewton Glen Bakery’, well centred in the beautiful surroundings for which the hotel is recognised.
The Kitchen development is just another welcome addition to the already outstanding selection of facilities and activities on offer at Chewton Glen. The 70 guest rooms and world-class spa are the perfect compliment to a world of activities to suit everyone, so don’t be concerned if your passion isn’t found in front of a cooking station.
Croquet on the hotel lawn? Absolutely. Sailing on the Solent? Just a moment’s walk away. Foraging tours in the New Forest? Why not. Staying the night in your own Treehouse? Prepare to be amazed.
