As next month sees the run of the acclaimed live experience of The Crystal Maze sadly come to a close, it seems that Londoners’ love affair with immersive experiences is far from over.
For those concerned about having missed out on the opportunity to take on the challenge of the maze, let us reassure you. London has, of late, enjoyed a tremendous surge in its offering of immersive experiences; whether that be high-energy treasure hunts, escape games or extraordinary dining experiences. With such a variety of fully prepared experiences within reach, all that’s missing is you.
Adrenaline intensive adventures
For an action-fuelled and rapid-paced experience, we recommend the exhilarating CityDash. The game, heralded as “London’s greatest urban adventure” (Curious London), is an energy filled scavenger hunt crossed with hide and seek that sees participants immersing themselves in a world of cracking clues and outrunning patrols.
Also from the makers of CityDash, last weekend saw the launch of Shadow over Southwark; another exhilarating immersive game experience set to thrill and delight those brave enough to get involved. The after-dark experience follows on from the immense success of last year’s Shadow Over Shoreditch, and is a fully themed high stakes adventure which combines escaping obstacles with cryptic clue solving, all the while incorporating hi-tech features such as enhanced costumes to deliver something truly extraordinary. Shadow Over Southwark will come to a finish towards the end of November, so be sure to get involved and save the city from disaster before it’s too late…
Also debuting this autumn is the new venture from the team behind the widely celebrated Time Run. This new immersive game experience, The Celestial Chain, will challenge teams of 3-6 in mental skill and dexterity as their interactive missions take them through numerous fast-paced time zones.
Less of the pace, all of the experience
For immersive adventure enthusiasts not necessarily seeking something so adrenaline fuelled, there are the captivating clue finding trails by HiddenCity, such as recent addition Mind of the Maker. These superbly crafted adventures transform areas of London into your very own treasure-hunting ground, and with routes differing in themes, areas and distance, the adventures on offer are boundless and are simply waiting to be discovered.
Escape game rooms are another slower paced but popular contender in the immersive experience canon. During these games, clue solving and cracking codes are again the focal point, but theming and entertainment aspects differ immeasurably and impressively. Escape rooms can be found throughout London, so wherever you are, you’re not far from taking on the challenge.
Food fans, rejoice! Immersive experiences are not just limited to clue-solving and action-orientated pursuits. Thanks to the run of some immensely celebrated pop-ups, such as Dinner at The Twits, Londoners are spoilt for choice in their quest for truly unique dining adventures. The concept of immersive dining is themed to the most intricate detail, so whether it’s sampling some of Roald Dahl’s delectable imaginations (Mouldy Delight, anyone?), or interacting with in-character hosts, an immersive dining experience promises not only to satisfy your appetite, but guarantees astonishing entertainment in bewitchingly mesmerising surroundings.
