Whether you are a black run expert or the world’s most dedicated snowplougher, there is a post-piste activity that welcomes snow sport enthusiasts of all abilities. Heading from the slopes to an après-ski bar is one of, if not the biggest draws of any ski holiday. In Europe, our passion for après bars means that with countless bars on offer we are truly spoilt for choice. Here we highlight our favourites, so all you need to do is take your pick.
Mooserwirt, St Anton
With its prime location in the resort that is widely recognised as the home of après, Mooserwirt is nothing if not guaranteed to deliver a good time. A daily Final Countdown announces the start of après at 3:30pm, at the bar that claims to sell over 5,000 litres of beer a day. Picture über steins, Europop and table dancing to your heart’s content. Oompah!
Pano Bar, Les Deux Alps
Between 3pm and 5pm, the aptly named Pano Bar provides a Mecca for sub-zero revellers, with panoramic views and après delights at 2300m. Unrivalled entertainment ranging from DJ’s and dancers to percussionists and saxophonists create an infectious atmosphere that perfectly sets off a night of festivity back in the resort.
La Folie Douce, Val d’Isère
There are now chains of this famous bar in Val Thorens, Meribel and Alp d’Huez, but the original Folie finds its home in Val d’Isère. The bar and restaurant successfully brings the dance floors of Ibiza to the Alpine slopes; ensuring an unbeatable party from 3pm onwards before a most likely booze-fuelled run back to the resort (please ski responsibly).
Trofana Alm, Ischgl
With more than 40 bars, the options are endless for apres enjoyment in Ischgl. Prepare your singing voice and embrace the best (or worst) or Europop within the very heart of the action at bi-level bar Trofana Alm. Located in the centre of town, the party kicks off from 4pm with an flawless mix of live music, DJ’s and drinks galore.
Le Rond Point, Meribel
Ski-in ski-out, an expansive sun deck and open all day long, this bar has the perfect format to host après revelry. For those perfect bluebird days, tanning on the terrace is defintely one not to be missed. When it comes to colder climates, a shot or two of the house speciality toffee vodka is certain to warm your cockles and fuel you for the hours ahead.
The Frog and Roast Beef, Val Thorens
Known to friends simply as ‘the Frog’, this bar boasts the acclaim of being the highest pub in Europe. The Frog has been the jewel in the Val Thorens après scene since its opening, and never disappoints in delivering a good time. Head here directly from the slopes for live music, renowned ‘Toss The Boss’ bar game, and always happy Happy Hours.
