2017 was a huge year for music, with the release record-breaking albums such as Ed Sheeran’s Divide and Taylor Swift’s Reputation album. As well as new break-out artists dominating the charts. Find out the biggest music trends of 2017, and our predictions for 2018.

Want you back for good: the return of the boy band
One Direction appears to have inspired the return of the boy band in 2017 and 2018, and we couldn’t be happier about it. In 2017, we saw Busted reform with a performance at the Royal Albert Hall, the formation of the band N.E.R.D, and with Blue rumoured to back in the studio. The Backstreet Boys will tour the US in 2018, will they come to the UK too? Queue the synchronized dance moves.

Latin pop music
Latin American music broke into the charts around the world in 2017, from Beyonce’s Mi Gente to Justin Beiber with Despacito. And whether you can speak Spanish or not, it seemed everyone fell in love with these catchy anthems. We look forward to hearing what’s coming next.

The explosion of grime music.
The grime scene has been building around London and across the UK for years, but for the first time it has begun to dominate the UK charts. Attention came to grime music with Stormzy’s album Gang Signs and Prayer which went to No.1, as well as Drake signing to Boy Better Know grime record label. Can we expect a Stormzy arena tour in 2018?

Artists working together
It seems 2017 has been the year of the collaboration, huge artists have been supporting each other’s albums with some small or larger features. Eminem’s album Revival featured Beyonce, Pink and Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift’s Reputation album included Ed Sheeran and Future, and Pink’s Beautiful Trauma album with Eminem. The Christmas No.1 hit was Beyonce featured on Ed Sheeran’s hit song ‘Perfect.’ With many of these artists heading out on tour in 2018, will we see further on-stage collaboration performances?
